BOSHAM
YOUTH CENTRE
|
Bosham
Youth Centre is a thriving club for youngsters aged
between nine and nineteen based in a purpose-built
building on the playing field behind the Village Hall.
The centre was opened in March 1994 as a result of the
initiative of a group of village residents who wanted
to help young people of Bosham in a practical way.
Through fund-raising and grants, the trustees, who
continue to support the centre, were able to provide a
main activity room with adjoining toilets and kitchen.
In February 1998, the centre was extended to add a
smaller room at the back as a lounge.

Current
leader Penny Foreman, who has two assistants, opens
the centre on three evenings a week - Tuesdays and
Thursdays for teenagers, 7-9.30pm, and on Wednesdays
6.30-9pm for boys and girls aged nine to 12. She
arranges a varied programme including indoor games
such as darts and pool in the main activity room,
crafts and outings. In the summer, the playing field
and sports facilities outside are used. A recent
innovation at the centre is greater use of the lounge
as a computer room or "cyber cafe" with new
TV and computer equipment for members to log on to the
Internet or play games.
A top-quality sound system is installed for
discos.

The
club also takes part in charity and community events
such as having a float in the millennium parade and
joining the sleep-out for homeless people at
Chichester Cathedral.

There
is a friendly atmosphere at the centre and new members
are always welcome to drop in on club nights or
