BOSHAM WI SUB-GROUPS

Our Sub-Groups are very popular with our members and illustrates how active our WI is with lots going on right through the month.  We are not solely a Monthly Meeting if you are interested in further activities we have it or if not if there is support we will get it going!

GROUP DIARY AUTUMN 2004

       MUSIC LOVERS

This group started in 2002 and is well supported. The group meets to listen to and to talk about all types of classical music - the sort that might be heard on Classic FM. Every taste is catered for and members are perhaps introduced to pieces of music which new them.

         DISCUSSION

For several years now members have been meeting on one morning a month, usually Thursday, to discuss an issue of topical interest.  A wide range of subjects has been covered including transport and the environment, education, the monarchy, hobbies and pastimes, alternative health therapy, life in the community, immigration and emigration, violence in our society, the supernatural and finance.

Many opinions are expressed and views exchanged and it has often been found that someone in the group has a particular experience of the topic which has made the gatherings more interesting.

We meet in a member’s home, drink coffee and it is very informal yet lively.

  BOOKLOVERS

This group meets at six-weekly intervals at members houses and it seems to have established an internal lending library. The membership has grown from seven to twenty. Books read and discussed range through fiction, non-fiction, classics, travel, biographies and autobiographies.

It was found that tastes differed immensely.  Some members loved Joanna Trollope, others Elizabeth Jane Howard or Michael Frayn.  However the favourites recently have been ‘The Road to Nab End’ by William Woodruff, ‘Diary of an Ordinary Woman’ by Margaret Forster, ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ by Philippa Gregory and ‘White Mughals’ by William Dalrymple.

The group also plans occasional outings to places of literary interest and will be going to Chasten House in 2004.

  CRAFT

Craft items are made for the Sales Table at the monthly Meetings. The Group most successfully ran a stall at the Village Fete in July 2004 raising over £250. The standard of work was to be admired indeed it was a magnificent effort.

  WALKING GROUP

The walking group was formed in 2001.We usually cover between 5 and 6 miles and there are – inevitably – some steep hills to climb.   On hot days we try to stay on the flat and in more shade if possible.

If you would like to join us, we meet at 10 am but  please phone beforehand to check date and details - Jennifer Fidler 01243 574033.

    SWIMMING

Now this tends to be a summer activity only! We have a choice of outdoor pools for either a morning or an afternoon session. The only proviso is that there has to be two or more ladies present, for safety reasons.

  ART

Find those hidden talents, are you a budding artist.  Art Group meets every week to explore various mediums of drawing and painting. ‘Can’t do that’ is not an expression allowed in Bosham WI.  ‘Have A Go’ is much more acceptable.

In abeyance until Christmas

SCIENCE

The Chichester Science Group brings together many of the Institutes around the city.  The group meets in The Fishbourne Club and past topics include:-

Immunisation, GM Foods, Astrology, Nuclear Physics in War & Peace and wine tasting at Waitrose.

As you can see a wide range of topics.
